Kiran Bedi, Ph.D, is India’s first and highest ranking
(retired in 2007)woman officer who joined the
Indian Police Service in 1972. She is the recipient of the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award (also called the Asian Nobel Prize), and several other decorations, Dr. Bedi is an author of several books, anchors radio and television shows and is a columnist with leading newspapers and magazines. She is a sought after speaker on social, professional and leadership issues.





Ela R. Bhatt is widely recognised as one of the world’s most remarkable pioneers and entrepreneurial forces in grassroots development. Known as the “gentle revolutionary” she has dedicated her life to improving the lives of India’s poorest and most oppressed women workers, with Gandhian thinking as her source of guidance.
In 1972, Ela Bhatt founded the Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) – a trade union which now has more than 1,000,000 members.

After independence, a revolutionary change has taken place in the position and power of Indian woman. According to our constitution, men and women have equal fundamental rights. She has been allowed to join any profession. Today, we have women legilators, women governors,women ambassadors,women prime minister and even have a women president. There are women lawyers, teachers, clerks and even women civil and military officers at topmost position.

Today, Indian women steal a march over men in the sense that they are able to maintain a unique balance between their commitment to their families and workplace and have proved that if they are not superior to men they are atleast not inferior to them...
